What techniques do you offer

Featherstroke Tattooing is a form of Cosmetic Tattooing. In this process, we implant tiny hair like strokes into the top layer of the Dermis of the skin, using a one-use sterile hand tool. This is a semi-permanent process, as pigment is implanted on a superficial layer of the skin, which lasts up to 12 months, depending on your skin type.
 
We also offer Ombrè Powder brows which involve a detailed shading technique, where continuous small dots are implanted into the skin using a machine driven micro-needle to give an airbrushed effect. This gives the healed results of a soft powder brushed through your brows. 
 
Our Combination brows offer the best of both worlds. Defined, feathered strokes in conjuction with powdery soft shading.

What technique will be best suited for me

Clients often have some idea of what they would like their brows to look like. After all, who knows your morning brow routine, lifestyle and signature look better than yourself? To help determine which brow tattoo technique will be best suited to each client, we always start with some key questions to get to know you and your brow goals. We also map out your new brows to the millimeter, ensuring the measurements and placement is correct and that you have an idea of what the finished shape will be.

Is the process painful

We apply an anaesthetic cream prior to your procedure, and continue to keep your brows numb during your procedure to keep you comfortable. Pain thresholds differ from person to person; however, every effort is made to keep you as comfortable as possible.

Question 4

How many treatments are required

A minimum of two treatments is needed to begin your brow journey, at least 6-8 weeks apart. Featherstroke brows are a 2-step process...
 
Your Initial First Session is used to build the foundation of your brows, and create symmetry and balance to the face.
 
Your Second Session, is to perfect the brow shape, and add more substance to the brow. We do this by adding more hair strokes, and re-establishing any pigment that has not held.
 
BROW REFRESH
This Refresh Session usually takes place between 12-18 months after your first treament. This timeframe depends on several factors completely individual to you.
 
FACT: After this treatment, you will have saved an average of 210 hours of brow pencilling time! Ain't nobody got time for that!

Question 5

What does a touch-up treatment involve

Cosmetic Tattooing is a two-part process and is necessary to have your touch up appointment to perfect your tattoo. A touch-up appointment is recommended after 4-6 weeks of your initial appointment. Colour retention varies depending on the individual and client compliance of home care instructions.

What colours can I choose from

We have a large range of colours to choose from and can also blend colours together to create a customised colour for you. We will look at your hair colour, skin colour and undertone to determine which colour will best suit you. If you are unsure on colours it is always better to start off with a lighter/more natural colour. Once you have become used to your new brows, at your touch up appointment we can darken up the colour to suit.

Question 7

What is the healing process

Immediately after your first treatment, your new brows will look amazing, with no swelling and minimal redness and discomfort.
On day 2 – 5 your brow tattoo will appear bolder and darker, as the area that was treated will slightly scab.
During day 1 – 4 you must apply a cream that we provide to the area, morning and night, and when showering to
protect the area from infection, and to quicken the healing process. This means you cannot wet your brows in
the shower or when cleansing your face for the first 4 days.
On day 5 you can treat your brows as you would normally – cleansing, makeup etc.
During week 2 – 4 your brows may appear to have lost some hair strokes! This is normal, and just part of the healing process. These hair strokes re surface during the 4th week after treatment.

How long will it last

There really is no exact answer to how long it will last, depending on your skin type and how it holds the pigment, as well as how closely you follow the aftercare instructions, cosmetic eyebrow tattoos can last between 12 months and 18 months before you feel like a touch-up/refresh. There are many things that can impact the lifespan including:
The technique used.
Your skin type – although not always the case, often dryer skin can hold onto the pigment more than oily skin.
Sun exposure – will make the pigment fade a lot quicker, so if you spend a lot time outdoors your eyebrow tattooing will generally fade faster.
Beauty treatments – particular beauty treatments can make the tattoo fade quicker. -Exfoliants such as glycolic acid, peels and microdermabrasion can impact the life of your tattoos.
Aftercare – after your treatment, your body actually treats the area like a cut anywhere else on your body and it will form a small scab. You must take real care not to damage the scab, otherwise the pigment may come out with it. It’s important to follow the aftercare instructions from your brow technician. If these instructions aren’t followed properly your tattooing won’t last as long and may not even heal into the skin at all.
Colour – darker colours usually last longer than lighter colours. Blonde eyebrows will likely fade and need to be touched up a lot sooner than darker eyebrows.

Question 9

What do I need to do to prepare for my first appointment

Any waxing or tinting should be done at least 48hrs prior to procedure.
Please don’t wear heavy makeup to your appointment. The technician will need to remove the makeup around your eye area. This way the technician can determine your true skin colour and undertones, this is vital for us to choose the right colour.
Do not tan less than two weeks prior or have sunburned face
Do not have any type of facial/peel less than 2 weeks prior to treatment
Discontinue Vitamin A/Retinol products one month prior to treatment
Do not work out the day of the procedure.
Do not have botox/filler less than 2 weeks prior
Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E less than one week prior (natural blood thinners)
Please be aware that having a procedure done while on your menstrual cycle can make you hypersensitive.
 
In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor colour deposit:
Do not drink alcohol 24 – 48 hours before your tattoo
Do not consume coffee directly before your procedure
Do not take an aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood)

Question 10

How long with the treatment take

Your first treatment will take 1.5hrs.
Your second treament will take 1hr.
 
Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment to allow adequate time to complete the clinic's digital check-in form.

Question 11

Am I a good candidate for brow tattooing

Accepted Answer

Just as important as finding a good artist, is determining if your skin is suited for cosmetic tattooing. Your age, overall health and skin quality all need to be taken into consideration for the safety and best possible outcome.
Unfortunately some conditions can heavily compromise the effectiveness of cosmetic tattooing. So it is important to inform your technician if you have any existing conditions or are on medication. You may still be eligible for the procedure, but need to adjust your expectations. Results will vary from person to person.
 
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you will not be able to have this treament.
If you have a skin condition like eczema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris and dermatitis your skin is in a constant state of unrest and shedding and therefore won’t hold the pigment very well.
The same goes for conditions like chronic acne and rosacea. The inherent nature of this type of skin causes easy bleeding, which once again means your skin will not retain the colour properly.
Excessively oily skin can cause those tattooed hair strokes to blur together and give off an unwanted solid effect instead of a naturally feathered look.
Deep wrinkles can make the overall look appear uneven.
Moles, bumps and any raised skin will also be unable to retain the pigment.
Unfortunately cosmetic tattooing is not for you if you’re prone to keloid scarring.
It is important to not be sunburnt for your procedure.  
If you have haemophilia or a heart condition it is absolutely not recommended that you get any form of permanent make up done as this puts you in a high-risk position.
If you’re undergoing chemotherapy, it is recommended that you wait until your treatment is finished. It's also a good idea to ask your doctor for a letter confirming they approve of any cosmetic tattooing at that stage of your treament.
Trichotillomania can cause scar tissue in the skin to be prominent, which does not allow the colour to heal properly. 
Accutane/Retin-A - If you have been taking acne medications such as Accutane or Retin-A within the last year you have an altered skin condition that will not heal well after the procedure. It’s very important that you wait a year before tattooing the skin. Retinol and Vitamin A are very similar and should be discontinued to use a month prior to the procedure.
